About Me

Hello! My name is Kate and I’m interested in helping women (including me!) move into self-employment or entrepreneurship from employment.

I have been talking about starting my own business for a very long time but have really struggled to make the leap for many reasons.

According to the Rose Review of female entrepreneurship in the UK, 8.6% of women plan to start a business within the next three years and 5.6% actually do. Based on a population of 20.8m working age women – that’s 609,000 women like me out there – what’s holding us back!?

I’ve set up this site with the intention of building the foundations for my business. My focus for now will be building up the blog to collate and share my thoughts and experiences around starting out in self-employment and entrepreneurship. I’ll also share the many useful resources I’ve read, listened to, watched during my (far too) extensive preparations to quit and work for myself!

I live in London with my husband, two-year old daughter and four-year old son. Since leaving university I’ve worked exclusively in management consultancy in three organisations – a boutique, the big four and now in the professional services arm of a tech company. Professionally I specialise in data & analytics, helping large organisations to define and implement their data strategies and have a lot of experience in large scale technology delivery.

Outside of data and analytics I’m exploring several areas of interest including personal finance, mediation and helping women achieve their career goals. I’m looking for a way to bring all these threads together as I make the move into self-employment and entrepreneurship.
